Weekend brunch is becoming a staple thing to do for foodies everywhere, including those in Charlotte. The breakfast-and-lunch combination has been known to offer both sweet and savory options and specialty drinks and cocktails that make it a must-do social event.

Craving brunch? Here are five options at Black-owned restaurants in Charlotte to add to your list:

Uptown Yolk – in Southend

Just outside Uptown, this popular Black-owned restaurant is known for its comfort food menu and gourmet breakfast options located at 1220 S. Tryon Street. The menu features contemporary takes on Southern classics, like shrimp and grits made with smoked gouda cheese, jerk shrimp and scallions, or the There’s Fire dish, a spin on a chicken biscuit that includes smoked chicken gravy and jalapeno jam over a brown butter biscuit. Food items range from $9 to $23.

Inside, the restaurant’s decor is bright and colorful; it has a full bar and a playlist centered on R&B, modern Soul and Hip-Hop classics. Uptown Yolk also has a noteworthy cocktail menu with various flavored mimosas and more.

Fumee – in the University area

Fumee Kitchen & Cocktails is located at 9539 Pinnacle Drive and is a popular weekend brunch option in Charlotte. The restaurant offers tapas, cocktails and a DJ in a space with plush seating and an intimate dining area.

Menu options range from chicken wings to wagyu meatballs, grilled shrimp and truffle fries, with prices from $12 to $44.

Stats – in north Charlotte

Stats Charlotte is popular for its nightclub vibe and special events that happen throughout the week. The restaurant, located at 3425 David Cox Road, offers Sunday brunch in a part-dining, part-party atmosphere with a DJ, hookah, a full bar and a limited Sunday menu.

The menu is priced with items from $8 to $29 and has everything from chicken wings to lamb chops, shrimp and grits and more.

Famous Toastery – in Uptown

The Uptown location of Famous Toastery, at 330 S. Tryon Street, is Black-owned and operated, and the menu has expansive brunch offerings. From chicken and waffles to omelets and specialty benedict combinations, the restaurant is well-known for its food.

In addition to the menu, Famous Toastery Uptown also offers coffee, juices and a wide range of cocktails in a two-story space that even has a private dining area. Items range from $7 to $20.

The People’s Market – in the Elizabeth area

The People’s Market is a casual, seat-yourself cafe that offers many things under one roof: brunch, baked goods, coffee, cocktails and more. The restaurant is located steps from Central Piedmont Community College at 1609 Elizabeth Avenue.

The menu offers smoothies, tea, salads, burgers, vegan options, and pizza, among other things, from $6 to $15. There is also a seated bar that is well-known for its prosecco and mimosa flights, as well as its wine selection.
