Housing advocates broke ground Tuesday on a $30 million senior living development on West Boulevard.
The Nathaniel Carr Senior Living Community will serve people age 55 and older who earn less than the median area income. The project got a $600,000 donation from the Knight Foundation.
The 120-unit development is named after Nathaniel Carr, a Black farmer and developer who has been credited with establishing the first neighborhood along the West Boulevard corridor.
Rent prices will range from $474 to $1,516 a month for 1- and 2-bedroom apartments.
Beverly Clark, a founding member of the West Boulevard Neighborhood Coalition, said she has seen many seniors displaced by the escalating costs of housing.
“This one’s for them,” Clark said.
The development is slated for completion by spring 2024.
