Former Myers Park High School student and Philadelphia Eagles linebacker Omar Gaither is hosting two events this week to raise money for Myers Park athletics.

Gaither organized the Omar Gaither Youth Sportsfest, which includes a 1.5 mile fun run and walk, and a free youth football and cheerleading camp. Gaither graduated from Myers Park in 2002, where he earned All-America honors and played in the Shrine Bowl. He is the only Myers Park student-athlete to earn 12 varsity letters in three sports.

Gaither played football at the University of Tennessee and was drafted by the Eagles in 2006. He lives in Charlotte in the off-season and said he’s never forgotten where he got his start.

The fun run and walk is on Friday, April 17, at 6 p.m. The free football and cheerleading clinic is for students in grades one through eight and will take place on Friday, April 18 from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at Myers Park High (2400 Colony Road) and on Thursday, July 10 from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

The football clinic is open to the first 150 students who register; the cheerleading clinic is open to the first 50 students who register.

Players from the Miami Dolphins, Cleveland Browns and San Francisco 49ers will teach offensive and defensive techniques. For more information or to register for the clinics, go to www.omargaither.com.
