Performs responsible work for the Parks, Recreation, and Cultural Resources Department working with the general public, assisting the recreation staff at events, programs, concerts, assisting with the maintenance and safety of parks and/or community center, and other related activities as required. Work is performed under the daily supervision of the Special Events Team Leaders and reports to the Special Events Manager and is evaluated through observation and inspection to determine the thoroughness in carrying out assigned duties.
Essential Function of the Job

Performs the methods and techniques required to provide recreation/leisure services, outdoor/nature programming, and special events.
Assists with events and programs.
Sets up, implements, and breaks down event elements, including tents, tables, chairs, signage, movie screens, decorations, games, etc.
Assists with registrations (electronic and on site), crafts, crowd control, program instruction, leadership of activities and games, supervision of interactive event elements and staffing of informational exhibits.
Sells concessions; collects program fees and accounts for assets.
Operates telephone system, copy machine, fax machine, and other office equipment.
Works effectively with the general public.
Conducts light cleaning of building and grounds as needed; maintains supplies and other items in restrooms.
Communicates effectively with co-workers and the public and disseminates accurate information.
Oversees the conduct and safety of program participants.
Operates heating and air-conditioning systems in the facilities.
Works inside and outside in varying conditions.
Performs related tasks as required.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES: General knowledge of one or more phases of community recreation events and activities; ability to provide leadership for group recreation and event participants; ability to prepare reports; ability to use instruments, tools or other equipment used in recreation and event programs; ability to operate a personal computer, including a knowledge of applicable software packages; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with associates, program participants and the general public.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: Prefer any combination of education equivalent to some coursework from high school and some experience in recreational programming, event planning, project management or related field.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: This is medium work requiring the exertion of 75 pounds of force occasionally, up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and up to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects; work requires climbing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, standing, walking, pulling, grasping, and repetitive motions; vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word; hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels, and to receive detailed information through oral communications and/or to make fine distinctions in sound; visual acuity is required for depth perception, color perception, peripheral vision, preparing and analyzing written or computer data, visual inspection involving small defects and/or small parts, operation of machines, determining the accuracy and thoroughness of work, and observing general surroundings and activities; the worker is subject to outside and inside environmental conditions; the worker may be exposed to bloodborne pathogens, cleaning products, and chemicals, and may be required to wear specialized personal protective equipment.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: First Aid/CPR Certification required.
