BOOM Corporate Sponsor & Major Gift Fundraiser

BOOM is Charlotte’s annual showcase of contemporary and experimental art created on the fringes of popular culture. The three-day event brings together people of all races, ages, sexual orientations and even art forms, with over 120 performances and installations by more than 300 artists, reaching nearly 20,000 people. Our fifth festival will take place April 2020, in the heart of Plaza Midwood.

Job Description
BOOM is seeking to contract a fundraising professional to secure financial sponsorships from local businesses, as well as major gifts and donations from individuals. Our fundraiser will enjoy periodic meetings with the BOOM production team, leading the organization in the creation of impactful and profitable fundraising events.

Contract Time and Payment
The timeframe of this contract will be from September 2019 through April 2020. Pay is $900 monthly, with a bonus opportunity based on team performance. Bonus is paid in May, 2020. If this partnership proves mutually beneficial, the contract can be extended.

Qualifications
Our team is comprised of passionate artists and art lovers dedicated to producing events where the best local talent can perform and present their work. Our fundraiser will be an essential part of this team, sharing our devotion to grassroots artists in the Queen City.

In addition to a love for the arts, this position requires comfort with these activities:
Cold-calling businesses and individuals by email and phone.
Asking for money.
Building relationships with a diverse array of people and cultures.
Working with a variety of business environments.
Communicating in a professional manner by email and phone, as well as in person.
Taking initiative to discover new sources of revenue.
Following through on all phases of the donation process.
Working independently and with a team.

Specific Duties
Study existing BOOM communications and sponsor packages for language, pricing, deliverables, etc.
Meet with the BOOM team to understand the current festival’s evolution and goals.
Request, initiate or supervise the creation of fundraising materials, such as videos, slide shows, printed sponsor packages or leave-behind postcards.
Research potential business sponsors and individual donors.
Contact and inspire potential sponsors/donors to support the festival. Meet in-person, when possible. Get to know their interests. Follow up, be persistent.
Keep an online database of contacts, notes on progress, sponsor levels and money delivered.
Report status, plans and problems to Executive Director every week.
Lead and advise the BOOM team in creating profitable fundraising events.
Gather sponsor logos for online and print promotions.
Write “thank you’s” to donors.

Monthly Reviews
Fundraising can be challenging and we want our team members to feel supported and successful. Our fundraiser will meet with the Executive Director and Board Chair every month to discuss the position, including any necessary adjustment of goals and priorities.
