The Economics behind the Opportunity Task Force Report

Thursday, June 21, 2018
Join MeckMin as we welcome Rev. Dr. Ricky A. Woods to discuss the unfinished business of the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Opportunity Task Force. It has been nearly three years since the group released a wide-ranging report documenting the hurdles and road blocks that poor citizens in Charlotte face as they seek to climb out of poverty. Come hear about the challenges that remain, which include the need to build more affordable housing, create better paying jobs, provide job training programs and access to day care, as well as other strategies designed to level the playing field.

Rev. Woods, pastor of First Baptist Church-West in Charlotte, is one of the original members of the task force. Appointed pastor of First Baptist in 1995, Rev. Woods is a graduate of North Carolina A&T State University in Greensboro with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Economics. He graduated Cum Laude with a Master of Divinity Degree from Virginia Union University School of Theology in Richmond, VA, and then earned a Doctor of Ministry Degree from United Theological Seminary in Dayton.
