Pitchin’ for Wishes

Saturday, September 16, 2017 - 09/16/2017
The Pitchin’ for Wishes Cornhole Tournament benefitting Make-A-Wish® Central & Western North Carolina returns to Freedom Park Sept. 16. Andrew Roby is celebrating a decade of cornhole tournaments that have raised more than $1.2 million for local charities and set records as the largest cornhole tournament in the world.

Organizers have set a fundraising goal of $210,000 for this year’s event, which will enable Make-A-Wish Central & Western North Carolina to grant the wishes of 35 children with life threatening medical conditions in our local community. Make-A-Wish Central & Western North Carolina will grant the wishes of 320 children this year, however, there are an additional 200 children still waiting for their wishes to be granted. The average cost of fulfilling a wish is $6,000.

Harris-Teeter is co-hosting the event as they have done every year since 2013. Its contribution of $75,000 will cover the cost of more than 12 wishes. Carolina Carpet One, Enterprise Fleet Management and Pinnacle Roofing & Exteriors, Inc. have signed on as platinum sponsors.

The family-friendly tournament features an NCAA bracket-style cornhole competition, food, music, mascots from Charlotte’s professional sports teams, a bouncy house and children’s play zone.

If you’re interested in playing cornhole, the registration fee for a two-person team is $60. The first-place team wins $1,000, the second-place team wins $500, and every participant receives a t-shirt. The deadline to register a team is Sept. 8. If you prefer to watch, Pitchin’ for Wishes is free for spectators and offers activities for all ages.
