Booth Playhouse will be transformed into an immersive 360-degree seating arena as Los Angeles-based dance troupe CONTRA-TIEMPO performs their piece "joyUS justUS." Fusing Salsa, Afro-Cuban, hip-hop and contemporary dance with theater, compelling text and original music, the company brings physically intense and politically astute experiences to the concert stage. The piece will feature local university dance students as part of a community cast created specifically for the Charlotte Performances.
Following each performance, the audience will be invited to participate in a post-show sabor - a community salsa dance party. A local Latin DJ will be spinning music rooted in the Latino & African diasporic soundscape to keep the energy going.
The presentation of CONTRA-TIEMPO'S "joyUS justUS" was made possible by the New England Foundation for the Arts' National Dance Project, with lead funding from the Doris Duke Foundation and the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation.
