Mr. Johnson was North Carolina’s first African American Chief District Court judge in 1974 and the first African-American Resident Superior Court judge for North Carolina in 1977.

Mrs. Scott was a 1954 graduate of West Charlotte High School and was lifetime member of Seigle Avenue First Church of God, where she served in many positions.
