Patricia Timmons-Goodson, a former justice on the North Carolina Supreme Court, will be the next law school dean at North Carolina Central University, effective July 1. 

Timmons-Goodson will handle fiscal management, personal and professional development, community outreach, fundraising and more. 

Former Gov. Micahel Easley appointed her to the court in January 2006, making her the first Black woman to sit on the state’s high court.

She retired from the court in 2012 after serving 28 years in the North Carolina judiciary.
