Gary Young announced his council bid for District 2 — the area encompasses Charlotte’s west and northwest sides — for the seat that currently belongs to councilmember Malcolm Graham.
Young is a former president and chairman of the Charlotte Black Chamber of Commerce. He served as an advisory board member of the McCorey YMCA and currently works as Supplier Diversity Manager.
Young is a Charlotte native and a North Carolina A&T alumni. He told QCity Metro he would prioritize public safety, economic development and homeowner protection. He said these issues impact the present and future of Charlotte’s west side.
Young first announced his council at the Sarah Stevenson Tuesday Forum, which he has attended regularly for seven years.
“Running for politics again is not about me. It’s about serving people. We shouldn’t let politics drive people. We should let people drive what’s in the best interest of folks,” Young said.
