The district is about 75% done with the superintendent search process, search consultant Debra Hill — of Illinois-based search firm BWP & Associates — announced Monday night at a Charlotte-Mecklenburg Board of Education meeting.
Hill said 39 contenders completed the application process, 19 of which have superintendent experience. From that number, seven candidates will be presented to the board, a number Hill said is “very unusual,” as BWP & Associates typically only presents less than six candidates.
“This was such a strong pool that we struggled to narrow down the ten that we interviewed to give [the school board] seven,” Hill said. “We’re bringing [the board] some very solid people.”
The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Board of Education will identify the finalists after the second round of interviews. The board has chosen to keep superintendent finalists anonymous.
District 6 representative Summer Nunn said the confidential search has allowed the board to have a “really strong” candidate pool. “This is also an interview of us and them trusting us [so] it’s imperative that we keep this confidential for [the candidates].”
The new superintendent is expected to be announced in less than a month.
