The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department arrested a suspect involved in a CATS bus crash on Sunday morning that resulted in fifteen people being hurt, the department announced Monday.

Nelzo Arcenio Mendez Domingo, 30, was arrested and charged with driving under the influence and driving with a suspended license, police said.

According to police, at approximately 7 a.m., Domingo ran a red light in a White Ford pickup at the intersection of Oaklawn Avenue and Statesville Avenue, striking a vehicle, before additionally hitting a CATS bus. The vehicle came to rest after hitting a telephone pole.

Police said MEDIC transported 15 victims on the bus to the hospital with minor injuries. Domingo was arrested on the scene, police said.
