Nick’s Gyros and Seafood restaurant opened in February on West Boulevard.
Customers can expect an expansive menu with Southern classics like fried fish platters, chicken wings, and seafood favorites like shrimp and oysters.
Since opening, Nick’s has received an outpouring of support from the community. Owner Khalif Muhammad, 48, said business has been “booming.” Its busiest hours, he said, are between 12 and 2 p.m. as well as 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.
“I’ve been in this business for 30 years, and I can honestly say this is one of the best groups of customers I’ve ever had,” Muhammad told Livin’ Charlotte.
Muhammad said he knows the community wants “good” food and, according to him, Nick’s provides that. “We don’t put any chemicals in our food — it’s kosher — and we want to provide them with great food for a great price,” he said.

Nick’s was founded by Muhammad’s cousin, Khalil Bahij, in 2008. Muhammad joined the business later, in 2010. Since then, the pair have opened six locations.
The family-owned chain restaurant began in Columbia, S.C., where there are now four Nick’s locations.
Darrell Crockett, a westside resident, told Livin’ Charlotte he goes to the restaurant every day, sometimes more than once.
“I’ve eaten everything in here except the crab legs,” Crockett said. “The food is fresh, everything is direct — the way you want it. I haven’t had a problem with anything that I’ve had in here.”
From the menu:
- French fries
- Shrimp, oysters
- Chicken strips
- Wings
- Fish plates
- Burgers, gyros
- Salads
- Pasta
Muhammad’s favorite menu item is the fish fingers– swai fish that is hand-breaded, fried and comes with the restaurant’s signature “boom-boom sauce” that, he said, tastes like “thousand islands with a kick.”
