The State Bureau of Investigation (SBI) is investigating a CMPD officer-involved shooting in the University area on Saturday afternoon.

According to a statement by CMPD, at 1:04 p.m., officers responded to a residence in the 2700 block of Billings Park Drive to serve an involuntary commitment oder. 

While officers were preparing to serve the order, they received multiple calls placed through 9-1-1 regarding a “communicating threats and an assault with a deadly weapon” at the same residence.

When officer got closer to the scene, they saw an armed subject actively shooting.

Police said one CMPD officer fired at a subject who had just fired gunshots. Officers immediately gave medical aid to those who were injured, police said.

No officers were injured. Two subjects were transported by Medic with non-life-threatening injuries. A gun was located on the scene.

The investigation into this case is active and ongoing. Anyone with information about this incident is asked to call 704-432-TIPS and speak directly to a Homicide Unit detective.
