One weekend in South End yielded one “pop-up store” nearly 500 visitors and more than $15,000 in sales. The “limited store” was organized by a local advocacy group that urges people to support Charlotte’ Black-owned businesses.
The limited store opened from Dec. 9 through Dec. 11 with one purpose: to provide a holiday shopping experience totally made up of local Black-owned brands. The store featured around 40 Black-owned businesses and included items from clothing to art, children’s books, health and beauty products, and more. Visitors showed up droves and were excited to support the concept and the businesses present.
Brands included Yes Darling Tea, a Charlotte-based tea company; Wingzza, a specialty sauce company; Maraki, a luxury clothing brand; Jayla’s Heirlooms, a hand-made doll company, and lots more.
