The federal government is now accepting applications from people seeking relief from student loans debts. 

Students who received Pell Grants can request up to $20,000 in loan forgiveness. All others can request up to $10,000.

Income limits apply.

The five-minute application requires basic information like name, address and social security number. 

The last day to apply for loan forgiveness is Dec. 31, 2023, but officials say applicants should apply by Nov. 15, 2022, for relief this year. 

Student loan payments were put on hold during of the pandemic but are set to resume in January.
