A 34-year old man was arrested for shooting into an occupied CATS bus on Monday evening in southeast Charlotte.

The suspect has been identified as Scott Randolph Mayfield. He is a convicted felon, Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department said.

According to a statement by the department, the incident occurred shortly before 11 p.m. at Ellington Street and Billingsley Road. The bus driver noticed Mayfield exit the bus and then pull out a pistol and fire a shot that struck the side of the bus. 

The passenger was not struck but the impact of the bullet caused bruising to their shoulder.

Mayfield is charged with shooting into occupied property, possession of a firearm by a felon, and damage to property.
