Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department is conducting a homicide investigation following a fatal crash on Sunday.

According to a statement by CMPD, shortly before 7:00 p.m., officers responded to reports of an accident between Marita Drive and North 485 interloop near Mount Holly Road.  

When they arrived, they located a vehicle that had veered off of the roadway and caught on fire. 

Officers were able to remove the driver from the vehicle and start lifesaving efforts but Medic pronounced the driver deceased.

Authorities have yet to release the name of the victim.
