What inspires your work?

I’m inspired by a love for my community, a passion for social justice, and a belief that Charlotte, NC can come from behind to lead the nation in economic mobility by focusing on racial funding equity, community investments, and philanthropy in all its forms.

What makes Charlotte special?

I love Charlotte’s mix of “big city” happenings and vibes with “small town” atmosphere and interconnectedness.  Our abundance of trees and green spaces is pretty special. And when you need a getaway, it’s an easy drive to the mountains, farmlands or beach…and the airport is convenient when you want to fly away.

Who is/was your biggest inspiration and why?

Fortunately, I have found inspiration in many people, places and experiences. At this moment, I’m finding great inspiration in my fellow members of NGAAP—Charlotte’s Black philanthropic collective. This is our 15th year, and I’ve been reflecting a lot. I marvel at the diversity of people who have contributed and participated over the years, what we have created and accomplished together, and where we’re going. NGAAP instills a sense of belonging and purpose as we pool our resources and share our gifts for social impact and a stronger community of Black people and organizations.
