Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools students performed spoken word, music and dance, along with their visual works of art during the City of Charlotte’s Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. National Observance event on Jan. 20.
Andrew Young, civil rights activist and former U.S. ambassador to the United Nations, served as the guest speaker. Young worked closely with MLK and shared stories of his time during the civil rights movement. He was presented with the city’s “Keeper of the Dream” award for exemplifying King’s ideals.
