Woman charged with killing daughter Thanksgiving night

The suspect, Elvira Elizabeth Alexander, was charged with second-degree murder and possession of stolen property.

A woman is facing a murder charge after her daughter was shot dead Thanksgiving night at a home in east Charlotte.

Charlotte-Mecklenburg police identified the suspect as Elvira Elizabeth Alexander, 56.

Alexander was charged with second-degree murder in the death of Chante Lavarche Alexander, 37. The elder Alexander also was charged with possession of stolen property.

The shooting was reported at 9:37 p.m. in the 3300 block of Krupa Court, just north of Shamrock Drive. When officers got there, they found the victim with a gunshot wound. She was taken to a hospital and pronounced dead.

Police released no information about a potential motive. Elvira Alexander remained at the scene and was taken to police headquarters for questioning, after which she was charged and booked in county jail.

The killing was one of two shootings reported in Charlotte on Thanksgiving. Earlier, a man was taken to a hospital with life-threatening injuries after he was found shot in the 1700 block of Pierson Drive, near North Sharon Amity Road. Police withheld the victim’s name, and no arrest was announced.
