Police: Two teens killed in unrelated shootings over weekend

In one incident, police said a 16-year-old boy was shot as he drove away from a house party in north Charlotte.

Two teens were shot and killed in separate incidents in Charlotte over the weekend, according to CMPD.

Deontray Love, 19, died Saturday – a day before his 20th birthday — after he was shot following an argument with a group of people in southeast Charlotte. Police later arrested a 45-year-old man and charged him with murder.

The shooting was reported just before 8 p.m. in the 5200 block of N. Idlewild Road. Police said the argument started at a convenience store on Lawyers Road and continued near the intersection of N. Idlewild Road at Snow Lane, where the shooting happened. The suspects all fled the scene.

Police identified the suspect as Damion Lamont Baxter, who was arrested Sunday.

In an unrelated incident, 16-year-old Fabrizio Alejandro Davalos was shot and killed shortly after he left a party early Sunday. The shooting was reported just before 1 a.m.

When police arrived, they found Davalos lying in the roadway in the 5800 block of Linda Vista Lane in north Charlotte. He died at Carolinas Medical Center.

Police said Davalos was shot while driving away from a party at a nearby house. The car was found idling nearby.

CMPD made no mention of a suspect or motive in the case.

According to CMPD, 85 homicides have been reported in Charlotte so far this year. The actual number would be higher had the department not removed some killings from the list because the shooter was not charged with a crime.
