A 60-year-old man died early Sunday after he was struck by a car while walking along Brookshire Boulevard in northwest Charlotte.
Authorities identified the victim as Theodore Cuthbertson Jr.
According to a CMPD report, the incident happened just before 1 a.m. in the 3600 block of Brookshire Boulevard, which is near Interstate 85. When officers got there, they found a black male lying in the roadway. He was taken to a hospital where he died just before 3 a.m.
Investigators said Cuthbertson was walking north on Honeywood Avenue and attempted to cross Brookshire Boulevard when he darted out in front of a Ford Focus driven by 24-year-old Ganga Maya Prasai. Police said Cuthbertson was wearing dark clothing and was walking an area not designated as a pedestrian crossing.
Police said the driver, who had only a learner’s permit with no licensed driver in the car, was cited for that infraction. Investigators do not believe that speed or alcohol contributed to the crash.
