
A man was shot and killed in northeast Charlotte late Wednesday after a traffic collision led to a confrontation, Charlotte-Mecklenburg police reported.
The collision happened near the intersection of W. Sugar Creek Road and N Tryon Street, and police were called to the location at 8:45 p.m. When officers arrived, they found wo cars in a parking lot and a male with a gunshot wound.
“Preliminary information indicates that the victim and suspect were involved in an accident and a verbal altercation occurred,” CMPD said in a statement. “The victim got out of the vehicle and was shot by the suspect. The suspect remained on scene and rendered aid to the victim.”
Authorities later identified the victim as Richard Clements, 37.
CMPD continues to investigate the shooting, the department said.
