A 19-year-old man was killed and three other people were injured early Saturday when someone opened fire outside a University-area apartment where a party was underway.

Police said Christian Malik Estes died from a gunshot wound at Carolinas Medical Center.

The shooting was reported just before 1 a.m. at an apartment complex in the 1400 block of Rebecca Bailey Drive, just north of University City Boulevard and E. Mallard Creek Road. When officers arrived, they found a man, later identified as Estes, at the front of the apartment with a gunshot wound. Two additional shooting victims – both women students at UNC Charlotte – were found behind the building.

A fourth victim, described by police as a male who had been shot in the chest, was taken by unknown individuals to a nearby hospital. His injuries were said to be life-threatening.

Police believe the shootings happened while multiple people were standing in front of the apartment and an argument broke out.

Authorities late Saturday had not named a suspect. Anyone with information is asked to call 704-432-TIPS to speak with a homicide detective, or call Crime Stoppers at 704-334-1600.
