Man dies after being struck by CATS light rail train

A 27-year-old man died Sunday after he walked past a crossing bar and was struck by a Charlotte Areas Transit System (CATS) commuter train that was traveling north at University City.

The incident was reported at 11:31p.m at the intersection of North Tryon Street and University Pointe Boulevard.

Authorities identified the victim as Marty Lee Parrott III.

Investigators with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department determined that the crossing bars, warning lights, and audible warning signals were all working properly at the time of the crash.
