CMPD: Gas station clerk killed during robbery

A robber shot and killed a clerk working at a west Charlotte gas station early Monday, according to CMPD.

Police identified the victim as Ismael Doumbia, 50. (He would have turned 51 on Thursday.)

The shooting was reported at 3:20 a.m. in the 2700 block of Freedom Drive. When officers arrived, they found a male with a gunshot wound. He died at Carolinas Medical Center.

Investigators said the robber fled after shooting the clerk. No arrest had been announced.
