A 20-year-old man was arrested Sunday and charged with fatally stabbing a 19-year-old woman in east Charlotte.
The killing was one of two homicides reported over the weekend by Charlotte-Mecklenburg police.
The victim, Audeja Sutton, died at a hospital from multiple stab wounds, according to CMPD. The incident was reported at 9:32 p.m. Saturday at the intersection of Bending Branch Road and Denbur Drive, which is near the Interstate 485 beltway.
Police did not say what led to the killing but announced the arrest of Tylek Hamilton, who was charged with murder.
Also over the weekend, police found a man shot to death late Saturday in the 3000 block of Washburn Avenue in southeast Charlotte. Authorities withheld the victim’s name until family members could be notified.
According to a CMPD statement, officers were in the area on an unrelated call when they heard gunfire. They searched the area and found the victim lying in a roadway. No arrest had been announced as of early Monday.
So far this year, CMPD has investigated 49 homicides.
