A robbery suspect was in critical condition late Thursday after a confrontation with employees at a cellphone store in southwest Charlotte.

According to CMPD, police were dispatched to a United Wireless store on Green Park Circle in response to a reported robbery. When officers arrived, they found store employees holding a man on the ground.

Officers performed CPR on the man. The Charlotte Fire Department and MEDIC arrived and continued performing CPR until the man’s pulse was restored.

Based in an early investigation, police said two males entered the store shortly before 7 p.m. One of the men stole cellphones, and both fled.

That when employees confronted the men outside the store, pinning one to the ground. The second suspect fled in a U-Haul truck.

Police say at least one employee fired a handgun multiple times, hitting the truck at least once. No injuries were reported from the gunfire.

Police found the truck abandoned on Center Park Drive. Officers searched for the suspect using dogs and a helicopter but couldn’t find him.
