The former Texan wanted to be closer to her parents. A visit to Charlotte sealed the deal.

Lydia Wilson, Qcity Newcomer

Name: Lydia Wilson

Moved from: Dallas, Texas

How long in Charlotte: 3 months

Occupation: Senior benefits specialist

Hobbies: Freelance makeup artistry, reading, outdoor activities, live music events, karaoke, cooking new recipes, tending to my plants

What brought you here? I was looking to leave Dallas for a fresh start and to be closer to my parents. I narrowed it down to three cities and came to visit Charlotte for a weekend and decided this would be it.

What do you like best about Charlotte? I like that there is always something to do in and around the city. The city is big enough without being overwhelming. I like that there are transplants from all over who are moving here. The green spaces and parks are beautiful, and I like exploring my neighborhood and being able to walk to just about anything I need.

What do you like least about Charlotte? The traffic. People drive a lot slower here. I’m also getting used to street driving vs. hopping on the tollway or highway to get somewhere quickly.

How do you hope to get involved in the community? I’d like to get back to mentoring young women who are entering or joining the workforce for the first time.

What’s been your most memorable moment since moving here? Moving into my place sight unseen. I had to move fairly quickly once I got a job and didn’t have time to come down again before I started work. I worked with an apartment locator and didn’t see the inside of my place until I got here.
