Police make arrest in killing of victim found by jogger

Charlotte-Mecklenburg police today arrested a man suspected in the June 21 killing of Jose Mario Chicas, whose body was found by a jogger in southeast Charlotte.

Police identified the suspect as 29-year-old Jessie Daniel Benton. In addition to being charged with murder, Benton also was charged with armed robbery. He was arrested this morning and booked in Mecklenburg jail.

Chicas, 51, was found dead shortly before 7 a.m. in the 1900 block of Milton Road. CMPD did not say how Chicas was killed or what evidence might link Benton to the case.
