What’s Happening, Charlotte
If you have a taste for food and drink, it’s hard to go wrong this weekend.
In uptown Charlotte, the Taste of Charlotte kicks off today and runs through Sunday. The festival will feature more than 100 samples from area restaurants, along with live music, entertainment, interactive children’s activities, cooking demos and street performances and more.
The event is held on Tryon Street in a six-block area between Stonewall and 5th streets.
Just as Taste is starting to wind down on Sunday, you can head to the Asbury at The Dunhill Hotel (235 North Tryon Street) to sample wines created by Andre Mack, one of the country’s most enigmatic winemakers who just happens to be black.
Founder of Maison Noir wines, Mack left a successful career in financial services to pursue his passion. He worked as a sommelier at top restaurants before creating his own brand of “distinctive garage wines.”
The other side of his business – a T-shirt line — is said to be inspired by “wine lifestyle/street culture of the punk and hip-hop scenes.”
