Woman found dead in motel; police charge boyfriend with murder

A 41-year-old man was charged with murder after police found a woman unresponsive inside a motel room in southwest Charlotte.

Officers had gone to the motel Saturday afternoon after getting a call about a possible drug overdose. Once there, they noticed that the victim, 40-year-old Jameriane Laverne Ardrey, showed signs of physical injury.

Paramedics pronounced Ardrey dead at the scene.

The suspect, later identified as James Mangus Brewer, was taken to police headquarters for questioning. Investigators believe that Ardrey and Brewer were dating and that the two had gotten into a fight.
