Police arrest 2 teens suspected in fatal shooting

Police have charged two teens with murder and robbery following a deadly shooting that happened in east Charlotte Friday night.

Eskinder Dawit Asefaw, 26, died Saturday at Carolinas Medical Center hours after he was found fatally wounded inside a car in the 1500 block of Wembley Drive.

Early Monday, CMPD announced the arrest of the two teens — Tavone Tyrik Smith, 17, and a 15-year-old male juvenile. Authorities did not name the juvenile because of his age.

Smith, of Charlotte, was charged with murder, robbery with a dangerous weapon and conspiracy to commit armed robbery with a dangerous weapon. He was being held in Mecklenburg jail while awaiting a court appearance.

Police charged the 15-year-old with murder, robbery with a dangerous weapon, conspiracy to commit murder, and conspiracy to commit armed robbery. He was taken to a juvenile detention center.

Police did not disclose what led to the killing or what evidence they found linking the teens to the case.
