Matthew Duke Gibbons, 25, was shot and killed late Thursday in northwest Charlotte.

The shooting was reported to CMPD at 8:29 p.m. in the 300 block of Rhyne Station Road, which is near the Interstate 485 beltway, near the U.S. National Whitewater Center.

When officers arrived, they found Gibbons lying in the front yard of a residence with an apparent gunshot wound. Medic pronounced him dead at the scene.

CMPD made no mention of a suspect or motive.
