Wow, what a week!
It’s that time of year. The first winter storm has come and gone. College basketball is in full swing. The Super Bowl is around the corner. And African American women are still mad at the 53% of white women who voted for Trump.
And here we go…
Government wasn’t working before the shutdown
Democrats folded like I knew they would. Sen. Chuck Schumer told anyone who would listen that he wasn’t going to support a three-week continuing resolution to keep the government running. Then he signed off on one. Yet we still have no resolution for the people affected by the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program. Missing from all the kowtowing and posturing was Donald “Deal Maker” Trump. But not to worry, he has three more years to learn how to do the job.
The Gospel according to Trump
Some conservative Christians believe that out of all the possible candidates, God picked Trump to lead the nation. Trump – a man so intelligent that he had unprotected sex with a porn star. Stormy Daniels, whose real name is Stephanie Clifford, claimed in a 2011 interview that she and Trump had sex in 2006, shortly after his wife, Melania, gave birth to their son, Barron. And they didn’t use a condom, she said. Because the alleged affair was nearly 11 years ago, some evangelical ministers say they can forgive Trump’s actions. I’m sure their spirit of forgiveness won’t last, and next week they’ll be back to casting stones at non-conservatives.
That ol’ hating Clarence Thomas
In 2008, D.C. police arrested 21 people in a vacant home. The cops found multiple women wearing bras and thongs with money in their garter belts. The men claimed they were there for a bachelor party and didn’t know who owned the house. The partygoers sued for false arrest, and the case made it all the way to the Supreme Court. The justices ruled unanimously for the police, with Justice Clarence Thomas writing the opinion. In short, Thomas said the partygoers took advantage of the property and knew what they were doing. So much for the entrepreneurial spirit of creating a pop-up strip club.
We might not have “a lot” but we have a little technology
Amazon snubbed Charlotte because we don’t have a top research university that produces tech degrees. UNC Charlotte claims to be the #1 producer of computing degrees in the state and home to the Cyber Defense and Network Assurability Research Center. Johnson C. Smith University just built a Science Center to support six high-tech disciplines, including robotics, cyber security and bioinformatics. Not to mention the new FinTech startups being created to support the third-largest banking center in the nation. I guess it’s too late to get one of those “mulligans” given to Trump.
With deepest apologies
Please give my apologies to Mo’Nique, but I won’t be joining her boycott of Netflix. I am currently on Season 1 Episode 7 of “The Mist,” and “Jessica Jones” Season 2 starts in March. I truly understand her pain of being low-balled by Netflix. But she was never going to get paid the same amount as Amy Schumer. She should stop getting mad because the system won’t invite her in and build her own platform. If she thinks they don’t know her worth, she should create her own comedy special and show them.
