23-year-old man killed in east Charlotte car crash

Christian Lee McCullar, 23, died early today when he lost control of the car he was driving and struck a tree in east Charlotte.

Police said the wreck was reported at 6:14 a.m. in the 3200 block of Shamrock Drive.

When officers arrived, they found a black male inside a burgundy Toyota Corolla, 40-50 feet off the roadway.

A preliminary investigation indicates that the car, traveling west on Shamrock Drive at a high rate of speed, crossed the center line, left the roadway and went up an embankment, where it struck a tree. The car continued down the embankment and came to a stop in a soccer field.

CMPD said speed and alcohol are factors in the crash. In addition, CMPD said, McCullar was not wearing a seatbelt.
