U.S. Rep. Alma S. Adams said she will miss votes in the House of Representatives while recovering from a medical procedure.

In a statement released by her office today, Adams said underwent a surgical procedure last week to correct nerve damage in one of her shoulders.

“At my doctor’s request, I will be taking some time away to recover and I look forward to returning to work very soon,” she said.

Adams, 71, represents North Carolina’s 12th congressional district, which includes much of Charlotte. Here office did not announce a date for her return to work.
