Last weekend’s weather may have been a bit chilly, but with the hottest events in town, it was hard to even noticed. Sax man Kirk Whalum and guitarist Jonathan Butler performed a Gospel Jazz event at Halton Theater.

I’m not quite sure how much gospel was in the house, but there was certainly quite a bit of jazz funk. If you went expecting a quiet, reserved type of evening, this was anything but. Yes, yes; it was definitely all that.

The Jingle Bell Jam event at the Embassy Suites in Concord literally had ladies kicking off their shoes as D.J.06 turned the temperature up on the dance floor. Trombonist Buff Dillard and band performed while guests enjoyed heavy hors d’oeuvres, dressed to impress.

Movie theaters were showing sneak-peak screenings for upcoming movies. “Molly’s Game” (which is already nominated for two awards) is definitely a film you’ll want to see, along with “Downsizing,” staring Matt Damon.

Check out my weekend picks.
