Cop enters convenience store to find robbery in progress

A 39-year-old man was arrested after an officer in the University City Division walked into a Circle K where an armed robbery was underway.

A CMPD officer who walked into a Circle K store on Sunday got more than he intended when he interrupted an armed robbery in progress.

The officer, assigned to the University City Division, entered the store at 10409 Mallard Creek Road shortly after 5 a.m. He was met by a clerk who came from a back room and told the officer that she was being held at gunpoint. The clerk then ran out of the front door, according to CMPD.

The officer yelled to the suspect to come out, and the suspect complied. Police later found a gun in the back office.

Police said the clerk decided to escape the robber when she heard the front door open, apparently unaware that the person coming in was a police officer.

CMPD identified the suspect as Ronald Lynch Jr., 39. He was taken to Mecklenburg jail and charged with armed robbery and kidnapping.
