Update: On Tuesday, CMPD identified the victim as 21-year-old Trenton Malik Stevenson. The department has also charged 18-year-old Raheem Amontae House with murder and carrying a concealed weapon.

Police are investigating a homicide after a man was shot in the parking lot of a Church’s Chicken restaurant in northwest Charlotte.

A call to police came Monday at 12:43 p.m. from the 1700 block of W. Trade Street in response to an assault with a deadly weapon. When officers arrived, they located a man with an apparent gunshot wound. He was pronounced dead at Medical Center.

Police withheld the victim’s name pending notification of family members.

The shooting happened during what is normally the busy lunch hour. As police canvassed the shooting scene, bystanders were capturing the scene on cellphone cameras. Some were being questioned by police.

A suspect was identified near the scene and was taken to CMPD headquarters for questioning.
