What’s Happening, Charlotte: 11 Fun Things to Do this Weekend (Sept. 15-17)

This weekend: The A&T Aggies are coming to town to take on the Charlotte 49ers. The Carolina Panthers play their first home game. Historic West End Music Festival Returns and more.

Cam Newton See Cam Newton and the Carolina Panthers take on the Buffalo Bills this Sunday at Bank of America Stadium.

What’s happening, Charlotte? This weekend, there will be a lot of action on the field as the Carolina Panthers take on the Buffalo Bills in their first home game of the season and the Charlotte 49ers take on the NC A&T Aggies for the first time at Jerry Richardson Stadium. Plus, Soul Junction: Historic West End Music Festival returns to JCSU for the second year. It’s safe to say this weekend is going to be pretty “lit.”

Looking for something to do after work on Thursday? Check out Final Draught at Draught in Uptown Charlotte. It’s a new speaker series offered by The Friends Council in benefit of the Charlotte Mecklenburg Library Foundation. The fun starts at 6 p.m.

Soul Junction: Historic West End Music Festival
Friday-Saturday @ Johnson C. Smith University Liston Hall Lawn
Soul Junction, the free, two-day music festival, where the city meets the village returns to Johnson C. Smith University this weekend to celebrate the vibrancy of Charlotte’s Historic West End neighborhood. The goal is to bring the community together around music. Headliners include Joanna Teters and Derrick Hodge on Friday with Georgia Anne Muldrow, Micki Miller & The X-Men, and Shelby J performing on Saturday. (Details)

TTime Empowerment Brunch
Saturday @ Renaissance Golf Course
The Ausie Rivens Scholarship Foundation and Eloquent Creations are hosting an inspirational brunch with special guest Marshall Lowery, small business owner and author of the book “If You Wanna Help the Poor, Then Don’t Be One of Them.” A portion of the proceeds will benefit domestic violence awareness. Pitchin’ for Wishes
Saturday @ Freedom Park
The Pitchin’ for Wishes Cornhole Tournament benefitting Make-A-Wish® Central & Western North Carolina returns to Freedom Park. This annual event has raised more than $1.2 million in the past 10 years for local charities and set records as the largest cornhole tournament in the world. The family-friendly tournament features an NCAA bracket-style cornhole competition, food, music, mascots from Charlotte’s professional sports teams, a bouncy house and children’s play zone. Bechtler By Night: Hecho en México
Friday @ Bechtler Museum of Modern Art
Bechtler By Night is happening this weekend. The experience lets you experience the museum galleries for free from 5-9 p.m. every third Friday of the month. Gather with friends and view the extensive Bechtler collection under the cover of the night sky. This month, guests will get an early look at the latest second-floor exhibition, “Paul Strand in Mexico,” a series of photos showing the changing Mexican landscape of the 1930’s. (Details)
