Police said speed was a factor in a deadly crash early Sunday that claimed the lives of two Qcity residents.
The wreck was reported at 1:39 a.m. in the 3400 block of Hubbard Road, near Haybridge Road.
When police arrived, they found a 2012 Dodge Challenger that had struck a tree after leaving the right side of the roadway. MEDIC arrived and pronounced the driver, Larry Lee Lockhart Jr., 40, and the front-seat passenger, Tabitha Denise Staton, 42, dead at the scene.
A preliminary investigation determined that the car was traveling south on Hubbard Road towards Morsey Court at a high rate of speed when the driver lost control and drove off the right side of the roadway. The vehicle went down an embankment and struck a tree on the passenger side.
The crash remains under investigation.
