Charlotte-Mecklenburg police on Friday arrested a man suspected of sexually assaulting two female joggers – one near Myers Park and another in the SouthEnd area.
Police identified the suspect as 21-year-old.
Bailey was booked in Mecklenburg jail on charges of 1st-degree sex offense, kidnapping, sexual battery, possession with intent to distribute marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia.
He is accused of assaulting two women on separate occasions.
On Wednesday, July 19, a woman told police she was jogging in the2600 block of Briarcliff Place when a man drove past her several times then approached on foot. The man said he had a gun and fondled the woman, according to police. A witness called 911 and gave police a description of the suspect’s car.
A second assault was reported two days later near the intersection of East Boulevard and Cleveland Avenue, where a jogger told police a man fondled her. The suspect fled in a car described as a silver Toyota Camry.
As police were searching the area, they stopped a car matching that description and, based on “additional information,” arrested Bailey, who confessed to both assaults, a CMPD spokeswoman said.
Mecklenburg jail records show Bailey has been arrested at least five times previously in Mecklenburg County since 2014, primarily on charges of possessing marijuana and drug paraphernalia.
