Charlotte recorded its 37th and 38th homicides of 2017 when two men died in separate shootings less than 12 hours apart – one on Sunday afternoon and another just before 1 a.m. Monday.
The most recent shooting happened in the 3500 block of Spring Terrace Lane, just off Nevin Road near the Derita neighborhood, just north of uptown. Police withheld the victim’s name pending notification of family members.
A CMPD spokeswoman issued a statement saying the victim and shooter probably knew each other and that a “subject of interest” was being questioned at police headquarters.
On Sunday afternoon, Lucas Lorenzo Baldwin, 34, was shot and killed in the Tanglewood Apartments in the 4500 block of Wynbrook Way, also near the Derita community. Police believe Baldwin and the suspect knew each other.
Anyone with information about either incident is asked to call 704-432-TIPS and speak directly to a homicide detective, or call Crime Stoppers at 704-334-1600 or visit the Crime Stoppers mobile app website at http://charlottecrimestoppers.com/
Charlotte’s homicide rate is on pace to break last year’s total, when 68 people were killed, up from 60 in 2015.
