
A man wanted on suspicion of killing his girlfriend in Charlotte last week was arrested in Greensboro, according to CMPD.
The suspect, Leroy Anthony Cooper III, 41, was being held in Mecklenburg jail on charges of first-degree murder and driving while impaired.
He is accused of killing 34-year-old Jennifer Renee Smith on April 5. Police found Smith’s body inside a home in the 12300 block of Verdant Court, in southwest Charlotte, after officers went there to check on her welfare. Investigators said the two were in a relationship.
Cooper was arrested two days later in Greensboro and returned to Charlotte, where he was being held without bail on the murder charge.
Police have not disclosed a potential motive for the killing or said how Smith died.
