When the Heart Dreams is a daylong event for those who love to read romance novels, featuring 16 authors. To get you in the mood, Qcitymetro asked the featured authors to tell us what makes a man irresistible or desirable. Read on for your chance to win tickets to this Feb. 11 event.

Sabrina Jeffries: Comfortable in own Skin
What makes a man desirable to me is self-confidence. And I don’t mean arrogance, which is TOO much confidence. I mean, an awareness of one’s own worth that makes a person comfortable in their own skin. A man should know his strengths and limitations. It enables him to have a genuine sense of humor about life and himself, which I also like.
Sabrina Jeffries is known for being the Queen of the Sexy Regency Romance. Sabrina is a NYT bestselling author of over 50 novels and works of short fiction. www.sabrinajeffries.com

Karen Witemeyer: Rugged, but Tender
What makes a man ideal in real life is slightly different from what makes a man an ideal hero in a romance novel. Nevertheless, as an avid reader, I have to admit that my favorite part of reading romance is falling for the hero. And one of the best perks of writing romance is creating heroes to match my personal fantasies. So here they are: The ideal hero in my mind is confident, skilled, and capable of handling any challenge placed before him. However, he’s not arrogant. He possesses a sense of humor and doesn’t take himself too seriously. He is strong-minded in his convictions, yet able to admit when he’s wrong. He lives by a moral code and holds the female gender in the highest esteem. He’s rugged around the edges, but when the right woman penetrates his defenses, she finds a tender soul. He is fiercely protective, yet at the same time, he respects his woman’s intelligence and abilities and would rather stand beside her that in front of her. When he loves, he gives his whole heart. He is faithful to his woman and his God, honorable to the core, and would die to save the one he loves. Oh, and he typically looks really good in denim trousers and a cowboy hat.
Karen Witemeyer writes Christian historical romance with hunky Texas heroes and feisty heroines who bring out the best in their men. Learn more at www.karenwitemeyer.com.

Emma Nichols: Kind-hearted ‘Bad Boy’
Naturally, a pretty package makes a man desirable. Show me some soulful eyes, a great smile, broad shoulders, flat abs, and there’s good chance my heart will race.
Oh, but for a man to be completely irresistible, it takes much more and has so much less to do with his appearance. See, I’m one complex creature. I love my Alphas, even if we butt heads some because I have an equally strong personality. I love those bad boys who are just waiting for the right woman to reform them. If he has a kind heart, is intelligent, has a sense of humor, is quick with witty comebacks, and if he’s affectionate, this man will probably have to peel me off.
Emma Nichols writes erotica romance. She loves to indulge in her passions whenever the mood strikes and enjoys keeping all of life’s cliche moments spicy. www.emmanicholsromance.com
