CMPD on Tuesday charged a 25-year-old man with murder in connection with a death that happened three months ago.
On Oct. 5, 2016, police were called to the 900 block of N. Tryon Street to investigate a report that a man had been found lying in the road. When officers arrived, they found the man, later identified as 64-year-old Larry Dean Bowen, seriously injured. He died weeks later at Novant’s Presbyterian Hospital. An autopsy determined that he had been assaulted.
On Tuesday, police arrested Samuel Antoine Smith Jr. and charged him with killing Bowden.
CMPD did not provide detail about a potential motive or what evidence might link Smith to the killing.
