CMPD on Tuesday identified the victim of Monday night’s fatal car crash in University City as Maverick Sloan, 52.
The driver, 31-year-old Maegan McTaggart, was released from hospital and charged with aggravated felony death by motor vehicle, DWI, reckless driving, open container and violating a driver’s license restriction that limits her blood-alcohol level.
Charlotte-Mecklenburg police say a driver involved in a deadly car crash Monday evening in University City was under the influence of alcohol.
Authorities withheld the victim’s name pending notification of family member. Meanwhile, the driver, Maegan McTaggart, was charged with DWI.
Police said the wreck happened around 9:16 p.m. at the intersection of N. Tryon Street and J.M Keynes Boulevard. That’s where McTaggart, who was driving a 2001 Honda Accord, crashed into the back of a tractor-trailer that had stopped at a traffic light. Police said McTaggart was attempting to switch lanes at the time of the collision, which killed a front-seat passenger in McTaggart’s car.
A CMPD spokeswoman said McTaggart may face additional charges once she is released from Carolinas Medical Center.
